“…Stocks pare gains as market attempts comeback from the week’s sell-off”

“…The S&P 500 was up 0.8%, paring some gains after a jump of more than 1% at open, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.6%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite also pulled back to 0.8% above breakeven after climbing as much as 2% in earlier trading on a boost from Facebook parent company Meta (FB), which reported stronger-than-expected earnings after the close on Wednesday that sent shares higher.

Investors weighed fresh data out of Washington D.C. that showed U.S. economic activity unexpectedly contracted at the start of 2022 for the first time in nearly two years as lingering supply chain imbalances, inflationary pressures, and war in Eastern Europe weighed on growth. First-quarter U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) fell at a 1.4% annualized rate after a 6.9% pace of growth at the end of 2021…”
